First Post!

I want this blog to be a way for all of us to have an ongoing discussion of what we are reading throughout the semester. Not the stories that we read from the textbook, but the reading that we do on our own time or during the "silent reading" time that we have in class.

Although some might disagree with me, I think that actually reading a book is the easy part. The harder (but also more fun) part of reading is the thinking that you when you're not reading. Talking about a book with a friend, writing about it for class, or even just pausing for a moment after a particularly exciting or challenging section can often lead to a different or deeper understanding of what you just read.

That's what this blog is for. It's to give you the opportunity to take a few minutes every once in a while and write your thoughts out, whatever they may be. Usually, I'll have a prompt for you to respond to. A question that's specific enough to make you think, yet general enough that it should apply to pretty much anything that you're reading. Other times, I'll just leave an "open comment" post for you to tell me absolutely whatever you want to about the book. Sometimes I'll even comment on what YOU have to say, so that the feedback goes both ways.

So... I'll get it started with my first question (and my own response to that question):

What book are you reading right now?

The book I'm reading right now is Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. It's the third book in the Hunger Games trilogy. I'll be honest, it's not the kind of book that I'll usually pick up, but it seems like everyone I know is reading this series lately. Students, friends... even Mrs. Warwick has recommended this series. I read the first two books over Christmas break, and I'm about 2/3 of the way through the final book. I've enjoyed the series a lot more than I thought I would, and I'm really looking forward to finishing it. Hopefully that will be soon, because I have a long list of books that I'm dying to get to :)

Please take a few minutes and answer the question in your comment. Tell me your book's title, author, and a brief decription of what you expect the book will be about.
